Blakewell Fishery April 2017 Newsletter

Spring has now well and truly taken hold, the weather is becoming a little more predictable with just a little to much of the Northerly winds keeping the temperatures around the 12 degree mark. On the lake the water temperature and conditions are perfect, the marginal plants are growing quickly and the the marsh marigolds have burst into colour.

Competition day!
Competition day!

The past month has seen some good catches from the lake and of course our April competition was very well supported with some great fish being caught.

Tactics for April no doubt will include some favourites such as the Cats Whisker & Damsel nymph, as always with the number of snails in the Lake you don’t want to be without the trusty Black & Peacock spider!

You can also expect some good hatches throughout the day especially when the temperature rises and the wind drops, Alder fly, Pond olives, midges and Sedge have all been putting in an appearance.

It would be remiss of us not to mention the winner of our April competition, it was Andy Facey pictured below with a lovely brace of Brown trout from his bag limit on the day of 15lb 7ozs…

If you haven’t been for a while you hopefully will be impressed by our recent facelift of the cafe and shop area. We have new toilets, a new gut room for the family fishing, a refurbished cafe and a new Tea deck easier explained by the pictures below.

So don’t hesitate, come on over and enjoy a day at Blakewell…
